MOOC CC K12 Educators

Nesta página apresento a minha participação no MOOC Creative Commons for K-12 Educators da School of Open, que teve início a 5 de agosto de 2013.

Week 1: Introduce yourself and your classroom need

INITIAL PRESENTATION EMAIL

Hi all,

My name is Sérgio Leal and I am a teacher of Physics and Chemistry in a secondary school since 2002 and also a Project Manager in an Entrepreneurship Association in Portugal called PEEP (www.peep.pt) since 2011.
My field is science (mostly Physics and Chemistry) and entrepreneurship education.
I live in Portugal so am operating on WET (Western European Time).

Best regards,
Sérgio Leal.

TASK 1

Sérgio Leal said:
This task was informative and recalls what everyone should know about.
In Portugal, in my knowledge, only recently beginning to discuss more about Creative Commons.
Only since 2010 I use CC in resources that I create. I have published some of them in educational portals and I continue to do so, but rather had not even heard of CC before that.
The copyright law is essential and should always be safeguarded.
A few months ago I attended a communication from a lawyer about CC and learned quite a few things but I still have a lot to learn.
The copyright law is quite complex and the use of CC came greatly simplify this situation.
Can someone tell me if there is some training in your country or mechanism of action for teachers are updated on CC?

CHOOSE TOPIC TO WORK IN THIS COURSE

Make my own PLE (Personal Learning Environment) is my challenge.

I'll ask everyone which resources you think crucial for your own PLE. Perhaps with that information we can do some kind of GENERAL PLE that could be adapted by each one of us.

Week 2: Creative Commons in Context

TASK 2
Sérgio Leal said:
The exercise was interesting to recall some CC licenses. My extra contribution was: "Not to carry the information that mean the 3 licenses, just like to mention that I use in the material that I produce the license Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike CC BY-NC-SA."

The exercise was interesting to recall some CC licenses. Highlight the next image and also the following website: http://creativecommons.org/choose/

TASK 3
Sérgio Leal said:
Exercise 1
Exercise 2
Exercise 3

TASK 4
Sérgio Leal said:
I talked to my wife (she is from a different profissional area than mine, she is CRA) and never heard of CC, only Copyright.
I explained the concept of the CC and its meaning and some applications and she was curious and liked the idea.
She was excited to explore CC on their own from now on.
What I did to address the CC licenses was to show my answers to the tasks of this course and show some videos. She also answered a questionnaire to see if she understand the various CC licenses and used the CC Chooser. Became a fan.
She understood the concept very well (as is my wife also could not say anything else :) ).

Week 3: Find the materials with the rights you need
Sérgio Leal said:
For research about my challenge (Make my own PLE (Personal Learning Environment)) I used:
I can tell that the resource was open because or they have a CC symbol or has a descriptive with the license that the resource has.
When I have more time I will also use:

Week 4: Remix and attributes

Edit and change the resources as needed Exercise

Sérgio Leal said:
I searched for an image to start a training lesson about PLE. For that I put http://www.flickr.com/creativecommons/ and found this original image:

ple by Mathias Melcher

Then I altered the image and put the CC license BY-SA like the original image and also put the name of the training lesson.
For the remix I only used Paint.

Week 5: Share your work

In this link http://www.casadasciencias.org/index.php?option=com_docman&task=search_result&Itemid=23&search_phrase=sergioleal20%20S%C3%A9rgio%20Carreira%20Leal&search_mode=all&ordering=newest I have posted earlier a resource for teaching chemistry platform "House of Sciences", it was only after review by experts is that is published on the platform.
The evaluation process takes some time this month and sent more resources to license CC BY-NC-SA that are currently being evaluated, but will not receive a response when conducting this course.

At this time the classes have not yet started in Portugal but the previous resource has been used by myself and other teachers in the classroom.
The feedback from other teachers who used the resource that I built was very positive and only one teacher changed the resource to be more adapted to their students.

Week 6: Collaborate and create

Week 7: Share your resource about CC

Since in Portugal the classes only began this week, it was not possible to show students the presentation that I performed and discuss the CC licenses with them. However, the blog created for this course will be continued and will be the starting point to discuss with the whole school community the importance of Creative Commons licenses.
Anyway, all years I discuss with my students the importance of licenses and they always show a big surprise with some examples that I usually bring to the classroom about people with law problems because they used work from others without attribution or correct licenses.
Only next week will be available this presentation for my school community. After that I will see their reactions.
One of the main problems in Portugal is the fact that only a few teachers talked with their students about the importance of autor rights and about the existing licenses available. Portugal need more teachers and other stakeholders training others to increase the knowledge about this subject.
I will continue to contribute training people of my school community and I will propose training sections every months.
